As the name suggests, the open tarp style is a very open design with a roof positioned high above but no “walls” on the sides. Since you can see 360 degrees around you from under the tarp, it offers a sense of openness.

It’s recommended for those who want to enjoy natural scenery, need a place to eat during a BBQ, or want to relax while feeling the breeze.

Most come in hexagonal or rectangular shapes, and their simple structure makes them easy to set up. Another advantage is that they pack down compactly for easy transport.

The "magnet and suction cup" type is suitable for cars without rain gutters (the protruding sections on the sides of the car body designed to channel rainwater).

Since it can be installed on most car models and attaches easily with a single touch, it’s ideal for those who don’t want to spend time setting it up.

However, since the strength of the magnets and suction cups varies by product, it is recommended to choose based on reviews and other feedback. Please note that if the magnets or suction cups become dirty over time, they may come loose more easily.

－The "Mounting Bracket" Type Offers Stability

For cars equipped with rain gutters, the "mounting bracket" type is recommended.

While it offers many benefits and is easy to handle, it is prone to mold if not dried completely and tends to attract stains that are difficult to remove, so maintenance is necessary after use.

If you find maintenance a hassle, polyester fabric—which is water-repellent and dries quickly—is a good choice.

Point 5: Be sure to check functionality

Once you set up a car-side tarp, you’ll likely spend the entire day under it.

In the summer, we recommend models with UV-resistant coatings or those made from materials with high UV protection.

Precaution 2: There is a risk of scratching the car body

If you extend the webbing (the straps used to secure the tarp) attached to the car-side type and attach it to the car’s roof rack or holes, the webbing may flap in the wind and rub against the car, causing fine scratches.

Try wrapping the webbing in soft fabric or placing rubber pads over it.

To protect your car from scratches, you’ll need to wrap the webbing in soft, thick fabric or place small but thick rubber mats on both ends of the webbing.
